cross between a monkey and a cat

ummm, do your kids, i mean one year olds ....rearrange the furniture? well like the plastic kids table is always moving around the house. valen likes to push it around. then the dining chairs are rocking a lot and nearly smooshing him. he doesnt seem to understand that they arent going to slide along on carpet... but he sure tries and sometimes tips them over. and then there is the poang... justins favorite chair from ikea (he is dying to buy the mini poang for the kids) valen can get up onto it now and it tips over onto him. our house was so child proof until a couple weeks ago, nothing is off limits for him now though, he is kind of a cross between a monkey and a cat. he got up onto this hippo walking toy yesterday and looked like he could be a gymnast. i ran to get the camera but he fell over before i could get a shot. ya know those guys that throw some flour on their sweaty palms and ride the horse beam? well that is what he was trying to do. so hillarious to watch. he has amazing balance. there is also a stick in the back door to keep the "burgulars" out and if we forget to put it back he picks it up and twirls it around like he is some baton champion..... oh and there is a large speaker in the living room that he pulls out from the wall and then pushes over (all while looking at me saying  "uh oh" and then spins it around and tries to pull out the wires. a couple weeks ago he had it out in the middle of the room standing on it.....

the only thing dahlia really tried to do at his age was touch the buttons on the vcr.. do people still have these besides us?

but the nice thing is that we dont have to vacuum anymore.... valen picks up the pieces of lint or crumbs or whatever and brings them to us, while he says "uh oh" . it is very conveneint since dahlia usually drops at least one peanut or raisin from her snack.... i dont really worry about him eating it. except for o's he just eats those on the spot.

i need a helmet

justin was gone for a week in california and while he was gone i didnt do much updating or uploading of the kids pictures. so they are finally up.

valens birthday party was fun and he showed off his cuteness and wasnt shy. we invited some family that lives around here and it was really fun to see everyone! he loved his gifts and his blueberry cupcake with vanilla ricotta frosting (which he loved more than the cupcake)  Valen cupcake.jpg

he is in a new learning season right now. he wants to climb on everything and test our limits. i am trying to be very firm and not doing that counting to three thing.... they are both getting the hang of it and know that i am not going to crumble....well i might (= so right now it is a bit stressful for me since dahlia is also in a new disciplining season too. she has started to push the limits harder and throw some slight fits... which of course is normal, but i am just all of a sudden dealing with two different types of tantrums. but really they are good kids and i am not complaining. i am actually very thrilled at how

well dahlia responds and how much they do mind... they are sinful beings and are just doing whatever they feel like. pretty much life is about not giving into our sinful desires and doing what we do not want to do but only with Jesus help... the good thing is that the kids still love me even when i do discipline them... if we dont get disciplined we wont grow, and that helps me to presever and not give into laziness on my part.

as you can see in the picture below valen is on the table with his accomplice. i went into the kitchen to wash my hands and i turned around and there he is.... and dahlia following right behind. my first reaction was "i gotta get a picture" but i was also afraid he would bash his skull!

Valen table-dance.jpg
he likes to use anything and everything to get up onto the tables or couches. justin and i were just imagining him climbing up onto the big table and putting the toy box on top of that and then swinging for our chandelier..... that may have sounded absurd to me a year ago.... but i seriously would not doubt that at all with this guy!!!!  so then i suggested just harnessing him in like rock climbers so the falls might be a little more graceful.... anyhow, he is a wild one and it keeps us on our toes... and our knees!

Happy Birthday Valen

Valen turned one today. we are so excited but it kind of is sad. he isnt an infant anymore and is turning into a toddler! eating big people food all of the time now and walking and talking.... he is growing up so fast. doesnt that sound silly? i know he is still so tiny and he is a baby, but it makes me sad to realize how fast it really does go by. dont worry though, i am giving extra snuggles and smooches now that he is a big boy. because soon he will be saying "oooooh mom, gross... dont touch me"
this video is of his birth. we had to crop it down to only a minute or so since most of the footage is inappropriate for you all. we managed to see the head come out but then we had to clip it down from there. but you get the idea... i think it is funny that when valens head comes out i dont scream i just say "owe!"  afterwards  if you listen closely it is quite funny. the nurses were commenting on how nice i was and how i said please and thank you while in labor and pushing. i kept apologizing for the screaming. but in retrospect, i wasnt screaming that loud at all... more of a whine i guess. there isnt any of the screaming on video here because the angle wasnt right and too much was exposed. but if you are ever over at our house (women) and want to see the whole video, i will show it to you. anyways, valen is adorable even his first few seconds in this world! we love you so much Valen!!!! you were worth every pain and scream and missed days of sleep.... you are so amazing!!
