Valen LOVES to play games. He definitely picked that up from his mommy and daddy! His favorites are Yahtzee TURBO, Uno ATTACK and Twister. He begs me all day to play Yahtzee turbo with him, but I refuse and tell him he will have to wait until daddy gets home (it is really obnoxious and loud!) I love playing Twister with them though. Dahlia tries so hard to do it right and usually wins where as Valen moves his hands and feet all over the place randomly. But he does love to do the spinner. Most of the time he actually calls out the right color and limb too! just imagine a sweet little boy with a lisp calling out "RIGHT HAND ON GREEN!" He is way too much fun!

We have this book Bent Objects, (which I highly reccommend) that Dahlia and Valen love to look at together. Here Dahlia is explaining the pictures to him. She really has no idea why they are funny, but trys really hard to. The next time you come over to our house, you should check it out.

Valen is really into puzzles lately. He has an eye for matching things. We got this one in the mail today and he had no problem figuring it out.So proud of him!

I asked Valen what he wanted for dinner the other night and he responded with "salad". He is the funniest guy. What kind of a two year old likes spinach!!? Whenever Justin and I have salad and don't put any on his plate, he usually ends up eating half of it... can't complain! (:

we haven't written about Valen in so long and there is so much to say!
Valen loves to suck his two fingers and carry around his favorite blankie. which is actually a blanket that auntie megan made for dahlia when she was tiny. he stole it. but dahlia doesn't care because she doesn't remember. I would say he has his blankie with him at least 50% of the day, if not more.
He is very snuggly and likes to be held a lot. especially if someone is in the kitchen. that kitchen is just so exciting, he doesn't want to miss any action. i suggest him to bring over his chair to watch me make dinner, but that just isn' t good enough for him, he has to be in my arms! so naturally dinner doesn't get done for a while those nights. his nap ends by 5pm so if he happens to be content in his crib after he is woken up then i will proceed to make dinner while he is. that works out quite often actually. I convince dahlia to go upstairs and talk to him for a while and keep him company.

eating, reading books and doing puzzles are his favorites right now. and of course watching daddy play the wii. (: he likes to choose what games he will play. just about after every meal he will say " let's play a game, let's play a game!" and every time we always respond with "not right after we eat valen, how bout in a little bit?" and the he loses it! arching back, fists on the floor, whining..... i guess he has a really bad memory.

speaking of throwing fits. we are getting through the 2's fairly calmly. I would say he throws more fits than dahlia did, but not as many as some! if we can be strong and not give in, he stops. and if he doesn't we simply put him in time out in his crib until he can calm down and that works very fast. I have only spanked him probably two times ever and it doesnt seem as needed like with dahlia. time outs work just fine for him and i am so glad!

well that is enough for now. basically he is the most adorable precious little boy I ever could have dreamed up, he is so special and life is just hillarious with him in it!!

valen is the sweetest boy i could possibly imagine. God knew the kind of boy that i needed that is for sure. he throws a few tantrums here and there, but overall i cant get enough of him. he is my special boy. just when we think he cant get any cuter, he goes and does something even cuter.... its overwhelming (: if he starts screaming about something, i will say " valen i am not letting you watch that if you are going to throw a fit" instantly he calms down and rephrases it in a very nice voice, very sweet and quiet. he makes it very hard to say no, but i stand my ground... mostly (: his little mouth when he talks is so cute i can hardly look at it when i am trying not to give in. and hes got a little lisp. i cant even tell you enough stories for you to understand, you just have to see him to believe it! but the other day we were playing in the playroom and he all of a sudden drops what he is doing and starts running up the stairs saying " i need tell daddy a question, i need tell daddy a question". he bursts into justins office and says"i need tell you a question daddy"...he leans over and valen whispers to him in his ear "i love you to pieces" It was so adorable!

valen will be two years old june 1st. we are so amazed and in love with this little boy. i couldnt have possibly imagined such a child, he is stupendous!

valen has a very sweet spirit. he is so gentle and loving. i just love that about him. i imagined a rough wild boy, which he is, but he has such a sweetness about him that makes me so happy. he must get it from his daddy (:

valen talks SOO much. dahlia said about five words by the time she was two years old and they were barely understandable, valen can say anything and does. we can literally have a conversation with him and he talks in sentences. it is adorable. i can understand him 90% of the time. he knows how to say "dahlia" but for some reason always calls her "goya"

valen knows his alphabet and he just learned it casually from reading books and dahlia singing it all the time. he can also count to 10. not kidding you! he doesnt really understand counting entirely but he knows the order and points to things as he says the numbers. dahlia helped him learn that. she really is a good teacher. he is working on his colors. his favorite color, i kid you not, is pink! anything pink in the house he loves. if he finds a pink shirt of dahlias he will insist on wearnig it... and when i asked him what his favorite color was he said PINK! hopefully that will pass(: sooner than later!

he loves to eat! if i go into the kitchen he immediately drops what he is doing and gets on his chair. and usually says "applesauce". even if he just had applesauce, he will still ask for it ALWAYS. he doesnt really understand how eating works i dont think. he avoids chewing most of the time and just inhales things. i just dont understand it. food is so much better when you enjoy it. i am amazed at what a good eater he is still though, there isnt much i try giving him that he wont eat. he even likes broccoli and peppers and cucumbers!

a week or so ago justin went in to get valen from his room and found him diaperless and smiling. pointing to some poop and pee in his bed! he had taken out the bottom of the pack and play and threw out everything, including some poop. YUCK! we usually leave him in there after he wakes up in the morning for about an hour because he just talks and doesnt seem to mind and we are still sleeping. but now he has found some mischief to get into and we dont feel safe leaving him alone that long! we are trying to put valen and dahlia in the same room, but it is complicated and just causing many sleepless nights for us all. hopefully we can get this figured out!

alright i think that was enough of an update, i will write more later after his birthday party next weekend!

valen is the sweetest friendliest little guy i know. i just cant explain how much i just love that little boy. he makes me smile all the time! so far he doesnt really do anything bad.... im sure that isnt too far away, but for now it is nice. sure he climbs on everything and might get into something on the counter, but he is never blatently rebelious or naughty yet. only dahlia is right now (:

he has an obsession with cards. any type of cards or puzzle pieces. dahlia got some flash cards with sesame street characters on them for christmas and he will carry all of them around in his hand and have so much fun passing them off to one of us or just looking at them. as if they are some sort of card collection and he is proud of them. the other night he even insisted on taking them to bed with him.

he is talking a lot more lately also. he says uncle and narner (warner) awa for water (which sounds like agua) and plenty others. he isnt afraid to try and talk, dahlia barely talked till she was at least two years old! they are so different!

he has always been a great sleeper and has continued to be so far. we recently tried putting dahlia and valen in the same room at night and he loved it. such an easy transition for him. dahlia on the other hand had some serious issues with it. she even woke him up in the middle of the night screaming and i just put him back in his room alone and he had no complaints. we are so glad for this! he is such a go with the flow sort of guy.

my favorite thing is when he brings me books. he will plop himself down right on my belly or if i am lying down, my neck. so cute. he will just stay there for the longest time, forcing me to read the same books over and over and over..... usually books that annoy me(= but i just cant get enough of him snuggling me, he really is such a sweetie and i and i can barely stand it!

ummm, do your kids, i mean one year olds ....rearrange the furniture? well like the plastic kids table is always moving around the house. valen likes to push it around. then the dining chairs are rocking a lot and nearly smooshing him. he doesnt seem to understand that they arent going to slide along on carpet... but he sure tries and sometimes tips them over. and then there is the poang... justins favorite chair from ikea (he is dying to buy the mini poang for the kids) valen can get up onto it now and it tips over onto him. our house was so child proof until a couple weeks ago, nothing is off limits for him now though, he is kind of a cross between a monkey and a cat. he got up onto this hippo walking toy yesterday and looked like he could be a gymnast. i ran to get the camera but he fell over before i could get a shot. ya know those guys that throw some flour on their sweaty palms and ride the horse beam? well that is what he was trying to do. so hillarious to watch. he has amazing balance. there is also a stick in the back door to keep the "burgulars" out and if we forget to put it back he picks it up and twirls it around like he is some baton champion..... oh and there is a large speaker in the living room that he pulls out from the wall and then pushes over (all while looking at me saying "uh oh" and then spins it around and tries to pull out the wires. a couple weeks ago he had it out in the middle of the room standing on it.....

the only thing dahlia really tried to do at his age was touch the buttons on the vcr.. do people still have these besides us?

but the nice thing is that we dont have to vacuum anymore.... valen picks up the pieces of lint or crumbs or whatever and brings them to us, while he says "uh oh" . it is very conveneint since dahlia usually drops at least one peanut or raisin from her snack.... i dont really worry about him eating it. except for o's he just eats those on the spot.

valen is eleven months old!! wow!!! he is getting so big! it happens so gradually really, but then all of a sudden you find yourself going "oh my goodness, when did he get this big?" he had been wearing a couple different pairs of pants around the house all of the time and they were 0-3 months and 3-6 months. i hadnt even noticed that they were getting so small. my sister gave me some 12 months stuff and i put them on him and they fit! i had no idea. so i put the smaller stuff back on and thought how funny it was that i didnt notice how short in the legs and tight in the waist they were. anyways, he is in 12 months pants, but they are a bit short. both our kids are so petite, but that makes them extra snuggly that, just the way we like them!

this little guy is so a full blown walker now! he walks everywhere. he can walk all the way down the hallway without falling down, but everytime i tried to film him, he didnt make it. it is so much fun to have him so mobile! when he first tried this walking thing he would have a couple bruises and bumps everyday and it made me nervous. but he got better and better so now he rarely gets boo boos at all, mostly when he gets excited or if dahlia has something to do with it. I have attempted to feed him many times, but it just pours out of his mouth and he chews on the spoon. Yesterday he was different though, he LOVED the bananas and actually swallowed all that was on the spoon. It was oh so cute. This is actually very nice for us because now he will sit in his chair for twenty minutes or so quiet and occupied while we eat or just sit and enjoy not moving for a few moments. The older he gets, the easier things seem to get around here. He is much better at balancing than he was even a week ago too. We are all looking forward to Valen walking and I would bet it will be in the next few weeks. Did I mention how cute he is (=

He has so much energy and doesn't seem to want to go to sleep. Well he gets cranky but certainly doesn't want to miss out on any action. He has been waking up at 6:30 or 7:00 lately and that is just way too early. he used to sleep until at least 8:00 and take two good naps. Now he may or may not take two naps and he isnt ready for bed as early as before either, but still wakes up ready for the day by 7am.... I dont know if we can handle this. i have sort of come to terms with the fact that he is an early riser and we are just going to have to deal with it, but then again i just cant imagine life as an early riser, that sounds so terrible. dahlia goes to bed around 9ish and i like to be in bed by 10:30 but that only leaves an hour in between to talk with justin or do anything important that i needed to do all day, so many nights i end up staying up later. but the good news is that it is daylight when valen wants to get up, so if i have to get up way early at least it isnt dark outside, that would be extremely depressing!

valen had his shots today and i weighed him while we were there. he weighs 15 1/2 lbs! that is 3 more lbs than 6 weeks ago. i could tell he was getting chubby, but i see him all the time so it is hard to tell how much he really is. chubby babies are so cute! well all babies are cute, but the extra chub makes them extra smoochable!

this picture is so funny! when he crawls around, his shirts gets pulled down from the carpet, exposing himself(= this is dahlia cardboard house he likes to paw at.

valen is crawling so fast now. he has been crawling (army crawl) for a while, but hasnt gotten up on his knees yet. he is so cute to watch slither across the floor. when he wants something he will climb over anything to get it! he really likes walls too.... he just crawls over to a wall and paws at it... or dressers or the tv stand, i wonder what he is thinking. he is such an explorer. definitely more so than dahlia was.

changing his diaper is quite a chore. he is so wiggly and doesnt like to be lying on his back that we literally have to hold him down to get the job done. when the diapers are full of poo, it takes us both to ensure that the poo stays where it should! very scary situation. the other night i went out and valen happened to poo right after i left... so justin had to tackle it alone. of course it can be done but justin was dangling valen by the ankles trying to wipe his butt upside down. those straps on the changing pad are such a joke, he still gets away. we cant even use the table anymore because he will end up falling on the floor, it is much safer to be on the floor to begin with. so the best time to change him is while he is eating, and also change his clothes at that same time.

he is sleeping better at night now. wakes up sometimes before 5 so we just change his diaper and put him back down. sometimes he wakes up at 6 or 7 and wants to play, but usually within a half hour he is tired again. we started using pampers at night and he hasnt leaked through since, well except last night....

valen turned six months on saturday. it feels like he has taken a turn for the better overnight. the past few days he hasnt been as cranky in the evening and that is wonderful! but the only problem still is that he doesnt go to sleep very well at night. he wants us to hold him, and even then once he is asleep he still wakes up and cries. it is frustrating. we keep thinking we wont go in there, but he doesnt calm down. we have let him cry for a long long time before and he still didnt calm down until we ended up just feeding him to shut him up. and the only times he is waking up at night after he finally is asleep is when his is pee soaked. is this a boy issue or what? oh my goodness! sometimes the diaper isnt even full but he is drenched. so i think maybe his aim has something to do with it, plus he sleeps on hiis tummy. that is also very frustrating. so then we have to try all over again to get him back to sleep after we clean him off. this happens once or more a night. and if we end up feeding him to calm him down it just causes the same thing to happen again. a few hours later he is pee soaked again. maybe if he was sleeping in a crib that is bigger than a pack n play to give him a little more room to move around at night. he moves a lot. also, lowering him into the pack n play to sleep might be bothering him. he goes down for naps so great during the day in dahlias crib. i just dont understand why night time makes him flip out. maybe we should have the lights on when we lay him down so he thinks it is daytime. hmmm, any suggestions! or wisdom!!??

(way too early!) which was getting very frustrating! i had to hold him during the day for 30 minutes or so till he would fall asleep for a nap. then at night i would do the same thing.. even still he would cry. ahhh but the past couple days i decided to lay him down for bed and just stand there and sing to him and touch him, he kinda fussed and sucked his hands a lot, but after about 10 or 15 minutes he went to sleep. and slept till 530am! then again until 1030. that was heaven! so for his naps i laid him down again and just left and he fell asleep! i thought this was going to take weeks for him to get used to, but i guess not. he is not as fussy during the day either.maybe it is because he is getting a better nights sleep! so tonight we laid him down and it took 10 or so minutes but then he calmed himself down and is now sound asleep!

i think part of it is because he started rolling over a couple days ago and likes to sleep on his side now. he sleeps so much better and sounder. he never did like his back! if he keeps this up i am going to be so stinkin ecstatic i wont know what to do with myself!

Valen is three months old today! it is amazing how much he has changed and even more amazing how much more he will still be changing in the next three months! he will be sitting up and playing with dahlia soon. he already likes to play with her now. she will tickle him and he giggles all the time. whenever she is in his face he smiles (= so sweet! she smooches him a lot and sometimes she is a little rough, but he still smiles and laughs at her. he is so playful and just wants to be talked to. i dont remember dahlia being like that as much as he is.
as far as sleeping goes, he is doing ok. i thought he would be sleeping through the night early on, but he had other plans. he was sleeping till 4 or 5 but lately it has been 2:30 and then waking again at 6:30 or 7. ahhhh twice a night is just miserible! i dont know why he changed his pattern. so we have been keeping him awake in the evenings the past couple night and seeing if he will sleep longer. last night he slept till 5:30! and then went back to sleep after that till 9:30 so justin and i were very excited to actually sleep in on a saturday! and dahlia slept till about 9:45.we love him so much and are very glad we have a boy!! not sure what really stands out and makes him different from dahlia at this age but it seems different. he seems more like a mamas boy than dahlia was but we will see if that changes. dahlia is definitely a daddys girl!

He weighs 10 lbs 15 oz, not a chubby baby but healthy anyhow. he has grown 4 inches since he was born though, and that is a lot! He giggled for the first time yesterday when i was smiling and talking to him. he will pretty much smile back at you now all the time. and of course the cooing and little noises he makes a lot too. much happier than he was a month ago! doesnt cry as much and is way more interactive! hooray!he has been sleeping great at night too. from about 9 pm till 4 or 5! then till about 8 or 9. naps are short during the day maybe 20 or 30 minutes but i cant complain!

Hello everyone! It's so nice to be out of that little womb. I'll write a bit more after I get some energy back but I wanted to make a little clarification first. I stayed in my mommy for a little longer than expected, a lot of people assumed it was because I was so comfy and didn't want out. Not true! It was getting pretty cramped and I really wanted out, I just could find the exit. I tried pushing my way through everywhere, but nothing seemed to work. I thought for sure that I could get out through the ribs for a while there. Once I found the right way, I wasted little time in making my way out. Anyway, I hope to meet you all real soon.
