Irrational Fears
I have a few fears. Some are normal and rational. For instance, I'm afraid that my car might break down at any moment. This is a good fear because it helps me to be prepared for that situation.
Other fears are somewhat irrational. I'm afraid of heights. It's good because it prevents me from jumping off anything that could potential hurt/kill me. It's also annoying because it prevents me from jumping off things that would be fun to jump off of.
Then I have fears that are just plain weird. Perhaps my biggest fear is that I'll be driving down the road, picking my nose (which is most of the time) and I'll hit a big bump, or someone will hit me and I'll shove my finger way up my nose and end up killing my self. Apart from the usual sadness that goes along with dying, It would be a really lame way to die. You'd think it would motivate me to stop picking my nose in the car, but it doesn't.
What about you, gentle reader, what irrational fears do you have? Double bonus points for Agoraphobia.

I'm afraid of opening or knocking on closed doors. I think this is because it means I will have to interact with anyone who is on the otherside of the door.
Your fear of heights didn't keep you from jumping off your parents roof.

I fear not being able to pick my nose in the car. I would be proud to go down that way. My biggest irrational fear would go somewhat in line with my superstitions. Sometimes when playing games, like fantasy baseball for instance - if 8 comes up for something, I'm totally happy (unless the batting average is .008). But I get weird about stuff like that and freak out. If there are too many 9's or 6's...I just don't know what to do...

Agoraphobia? No, i like "the marketplace". I suppose the worst would be my irrational fear of failure. It can manifest itself in many ways: procrastination (if i am afraid i can't do it right i can put it off), avoidance (better than procrastination because with avoidance i quit before i even start), and also everyone's favorite, cynicism (i might fail if i try, so instead i will mock whatever it was i wanted to do, and maybe those who do it as well). I almost went to a therapist for help, but i was afraid that i would fail to get cured. I will let the reader decide what part/s (and to what extent), if any, of this comment is true.

By the way - I can offer systematic desensitization to anyone who needs it, for a small fee.

Oooh... i would like to take Megan up on the systematic desensitization, only... i am afraid... no WAIT... im not afraid, but i am afraid that i would fail my desensitization.

So, Megan, what do I need systematicd desensitization for . . . ?
Justin on Jan 27, 2006 4:00pm
i think we all know what you need it for.
1) monkeys
2) fear of the world running out of ice cream and chocolate syrup
g bodeutsch on Jan 27, 2006 4:00pm
Yikes . . . monkeys! They all ought to be locked up . . . they're wild animals and ought to be guchied too.

I have a fear my mutant powers will be exposed and the world will turn against me. I also have a fear of airbags because they might go off when I'm picking my nose.
