Growing Up
There are some things that I loved when I was a kid, but now think are silly. At different points I loved MC Hammer and Carman. I watched Home Improvement every week for a few years. I read every 'Boxcar Children' book that I could. Now I can't stomach any of them.
Other things I loved then and I love now. I loved and still love Animaniacs. I've played Super Techmo Bowl for the Nintendo every year for a long time. There was a few years when all I listened to was Weird Al. As I got older I kept thinking that I needed to stop liking him. As hard as I tried I kept coming back to him. My on-going interest was furthered today with the release of Weird Al's newest song.
I wonder what things I love today will be old news in a few years. If you know a magic formula for figuring that out, I'm interested.
What are some things that you loved as a kid that you are embarrassed of now? What things do you still love?

I saw the Animaniacs DVD's for sale at Target yesterday and almost bought it, but I figured I should try to wait until someone else buys it for me.

I think we're all thinking that.

I still have some Carmen CDs if anyone is interested. It's too bad Dad's not in Thailand anymore, we could all get copies of the Animaniacs VCD.
I've noticed I don't watch nearly as much professional wrestling as I used to and if I do watch, it's for a different reason than I did as a kid.

Hey, have you downloaded the free mp3 at WeirdAl.com? It'a a parody of James Blunt's You're Beautiful, and it's hilarious. Blunt gave his permission, but his record label told him not to put it on his album, so Al's posting on his website instead. It's funny, and I'm pretty sure I've lived with the guy he's singing about...

spandex, ring pops and making home movies at 2am.
Other than that I'm pretty sure i'm still proud of liking everythig i used to like and I still like it, if only for nostalgia. If I could get my hands on a Hypercolor shirt I would wear it with pride. I'm pretty sure the secret to knowing if something will be lame later on is knowing if it's actually any good in the first place (like the really good bands are still good. and books. Noone will read the Davinci code in 10 years, but everyone will still read Narnia)

i agree about the hypercolor shirts!

I remember when we thought wearing two pairs of socks at the same time that were two different colors was cool. I am sure Jacquelyn remembers!

Tight fitting black slack, white socks, black shoes, white shirt, narrow black tie and black suit coat with narrow lapels. I remember thinking "there is no way they will ever be able to improve on this." I guess I am a "black and white" kind of guy.

The real story here is Weird Al's video. Oh gosh, I'm still laughing. I almost think Justin is relating with this guy a little. :)
