Banks
What's the deal with banks? Often when I visit the bank there is a long line of patrons waiting to do their financial business. As my heart sinks at the prospect of waiting in line for untold amounts of time, a glimmer of light shines through. I see the ATM with no one using it. Sometimes there are one or two people there, but always much less than the line for the tellers. I've never really understood this. Do people enjoy waiting in line? Does the half-hearted smile from the teller keep them coming back? Do people not realize that there is a faster way? Are they afraid of the robot who eats their checks and spits out cash? What do you do at the bank (or are you extra lazy efficient and do direct deposit)?

i used to love going into the bank so i could talk to a real person, i dont like machines, but they are much faster and now i use the self checkout at the grocery store all of the time too!

Our family tries to use the self check-out sometimes, but it takes twice as long as just letting the cashier do it. And they don't have self-check in Canada.

Megan, you should have trained the parents better. I haven't waited in line at a bank in years. Also Megan, what's up with your homepage? I'm pretty sure it involves asian pop stars and superheroes, but I can't really tell.

Hmm...Asian pop stars...maybe the link took you to the wrong page. It should be mostly English, with only a little bit of Korean.

So are those monkeys there to scare off dad?
Megan on Oct 27, 2006 4:00pm
Basically, yes...there was another option that had monkey's throwing coconuts, but I thought that might be too scary.

ATM's are great but you have to be careful. I know someone who sometimes looses his card in them and then it's a real mess.

Here's my deal:
I care about my money and ATM's make me nervous. 95% of the time when I go to the bank it is to deposit a check. When I deposit to a person, it instantly clears before my eyes and the money is in my account.
However, in ATM land, when I deposit a check, the money is in my account, but the check has not cleared - they have to later go through and check the checks - which, in my case, once was a pain in the rear (I had to go back for some reason to clarify or sign or something, I just remember it was annoying).

I love direct deposit and I never go in the bank I always use the drive up ATM. Its so much faster. Oh and I think bank of america will charge me if I go in the bank because we have some special thing we signed up for on our account. Its ridiculous!!

If I am only getting a couple items I use self-check..
But if I'm doing real grocery shopping I go to Winco.. I get to bag it myself but I don't get to do the cool little beep! thing.. bummer.
ATMs are great but not if you need the money pronto. And I try to make the bank teller smile if I actually go in.. they get grumpy people all day.. take the time to ask how they are, etc. And SMILE :)
