i want to swim!!
i have been interested in swimming for a while now and since buying a house with a pool is out of the question and moving to an apartment complex with a pool is as much out of the question as the first reason.... then i suppose joining a gym is my next option. so i checked into the gyms with pools close to us. the prices were 45 bucks and 60 for the higher end place. i can understand charging that much, but the joining fees for one of them is absurd! 200 bucks!! the ymca is only 90 bucks to join and if i spread that out over 6 months then it makes it sound better, but where am i going to find 65 extra dollars a month? seriously any ideas?
i dont want to do any kind of party throwing money making thing, pampered chef, jewelry candles... not for me! i thought maybe i could make totes and purses for 25 bucks each out of the fabrics i already have ,but what if i dont make my quota, who doesnt get to eat that month? (= in theory making stuff to sell is a great idea, but being consistent is the problem. i think something outside the home would be best. so if you have any ideas, i really want to hear them! i really really want to swim!!!

I'd say this is meant to be eaten directly from the container! Best food on earth.

Well, I don't remember what to do in the PNW, but I know that here in Ohio we have to make friends with the people that have pools. There's a house here that is really nice and roomy and has a cute little in-ground pool in the backyard. It's goin' for 125K...so if you and the family ever consider moving to South Central Ohio, I've got just the place. :)

$65 a month is really expensive! Sheesh, I don't know how to come up with another $65 a month. Making stuff is a great idea, but making things consistently and actually selling them would be important.

The Y offers scholarships sometimes, I've heard not many people apply because of the "hoops" you have to jump through... might be worth investigating!

Or you could find a mom that needs a sitter 1 to 2 days a week...that would surely pay enough to swim??

wow, ohio... that is cheap!!
if only we werent in love with the northwest...
i have thought about watching someone kids, but i would feel bad asking for money... especially if they were my friends. but i might look into that.
justin and i are going to go once together and see how i feel after swimming. make sure it doesnt bother my bad ankle.
thanks for all the ideas.

I think you should just save your quarters and go to a public pool to swim in the lanes whenever you really get the urge...because realistically, you'll end up paying the fee and then finding excuses why you can't go...or else not be able to get away when you want and still paying for nothing. Public pools may have more peole, but maybe you can go during off times when there are less likely to be lots of swimmers, and then at least you would only pay when you actually go. You'll probably save money that way.

You could set up a page on etsy.com to sell your crafts - at least that way if you just wanted to pay by use, you could even just go use the pool at Evergreen State College for $5 a use, when you feel like it (I'm alumni, so I can swim for like $3, but I never remember to take advantage of it!)
Let's do it! Seriously... Evergreen also has memberships per year, that ends up only being about $20 a month, so way cheaper than the Y.
