sleeping like a big girl

we had tried to put dahlia in a big bed a while back, but she kind of freaked out. since then we have been asking her off and on if she would like to sleep in a big girl bed like mama and daddy, she finally said yes! but also the past month or so she has been much more independent and she wants to do everything by herself, so it seemed like a good time to try again.. so we brought over justins old bed from his parents house and set it up and then also set up a different crib since valen broke off one of the bars on the other crib (= hopefully soon we can put them both in their at night ( valen sleeps in the pack n play in justins office at night right now, it is really hot in there!) and they can keep each other happy in the morning a little while (= and then MAYBE dahlia will take a nap!! (since valen wakes up about 730 and dahlia doesnt get up till 830 or 9, she will need a nap now)

right after she got up today we commented on how much of a big girl she is now, and soon after that she said she had to go pee, so she went into the bathroom.... i thought maybe this would be a new start for her... but sadly not. well she did go in her potty chair but a couple hours later peed in her underwear. actually i am ok with her not being potty trained quite yet, it is more of a hassle right now. in a few months would be a good time. so we are just waiting for her to "get it" and not rush it.

we are so excited she is in her big bed, now if she wakes up at night we can just come lay with her for a few minutes until she falls asleep... much better than letting her sleep with us and getting kicked out, literally! and now valen can have her crib too.

YEAH! I'm sure that every step of independence comes as a little bittersweet - I mean, she is growing up! Pretty soon you'll be sending her off to college :)

We were so glad to get to see you all when you were down!

i agree with molly...things like that are always bittersweet. I mean, it is sweet that she is in a big girl bed now, but bitter that she can get out now and roam the house while you sleep if she so chooses...but sweet because then you have a reason to clean your house more (that's when I started) so that there wasn't anything she could hurt herself with and I liked having a clean house, but still bitter...because I had to clean the house! The list goes on and on, haha. Really, though, congrats to Dahlia...she's a cutie!

it seems everything is bittersweet with children, on the one hand i want to watch them grow up and change but on the other i want to snuggle them in my arms all night forever!!!
now i understand the excitement over grandchildren (=
